I am always making New Year Resolutions and sometimes I actually manage to keep to them. This year you can all keep me in check!
My photo related one this year is to complete a 365 project. The aim is a photo a day to be posted over on my instagram account. I am using the hashtag "GCPHOTO365" to keep track and let you all follow on this journey (click the link). There is no specific theme and the photo could be anything, it is mainly just to get me to think creatively and work with what is around me. Some will be work related but others will be downtime related. Hope you follow along and I will keep you all updated here too. Gary :)

Sharing a back wall with Cusack Park has its ups and downs but this week we got to see some history in the making. The Cusack Stand is being demolished to make way for a modern stand and capacity upgrade. Aoife was on hand with the camera set up in our office to capture some timelapse of the demolition starting. Aoife also snapped a pic early last week that made its way around the net. See here - http://clareherald.com/2015/08/timelapse-video-e2-3m-redevelopment-of-cusack-park-5675/ & here - http://www.hoganstand.com/hurling/ArticleForm.aspx?ID=242171 The timelapse video at time of writing is over 1,000 views!! We have plenty more video and will post one once there is more progress. Gary 2014 was a mighty year for Gary Collins Photography (and my background partner - Aoife). We had many firsts and many fantastic experiences. I will give a brief look at the year here but feel free to pop on by Facebook or look back over the blog for a full look back at the year.
The first item on the 2014 calendar was a studio at a Dance Competition. Feile Rince Ui Bhriain on the 19th of January was the occasion and it was a very successful day. I had fun both with the studio and capturing some little moments during the prize givings over the day. Picking the perfect gift can be one of the hardest decisions we make each year because we all want to get something unique, different and something that will be remembered. So, why not pick up a gift voucher so that special someone can look at their print for years to come.
Gift vouchers can be used for anything we offer, landscapes, newborn sessions, family portraits and weddings. To order, just drop me a mail on garycollinsphotography@gmail.com and I will arrange it all for you. Gary :) "Photography for me is not looking, it's feeling. If you can't feel what you're looking at, then you're never going to get others to" Don McCullin.
This is the quote they lead with, which is one of my favourite photography related quotes. An image should portray a feeling. These images certainly do but for photojournalism they should also not be altered in any way. The Sunday Times have gone and added a 2.5 D type motion to them. This takes from the image. If they are paying tribute to photography then why the need to make it look like a video? What do you think? Aoife surprised me with a Kodak six-20 for Christmas. After a look online I found out that it had all the necessary parts still with it to allow me to test out some film. I managed to find some 120 online and the supplier had modified it to suit my six-20. Looking forward to testing it out and seeing if the camera works! Here's hoping it does and i get some decent results. I will keep you all updated on progress. Gary :) World press photo awards are out for another year and once again i find myself in awe looking at them.
As a photographer you can only dream of capturing an image of the standard of those who received awards but as a human you can only wish you do not find yourself in the position that some of these photos are taken. Make sure to click the link and have a look around. Comment on if you agree with the winners or which was your favourite. https://www.worldpressphoto.org/awards/2014 January was one of those crazy busy months with little or no time to think.
I got very little time to just get out and shoot some shots but I did have a few firsts. I had my first feis where I didn't have to do anything except take photographs. I would like to thank Sharon and Patricia for inviting me to Feile Rince Ui Bhriain and letting me give it a go. During the day I got some lovely images of the presentations and had my first few studio clients too. Gotta love when your browsing and notice a shot that looks like yours but has been edited to add a frame and a watermark. When looking closer it clearly is your shot!
Since I took this photo, I have started using watermarks but it is shocking to think people just take an image and claim it as there own. Not a big fan of them as they take from the image in my opinion but this is why it has to be done. The image was taken down upon request but no apology or reply to my message. Have anybody out there seen anything like this before? Gary :) As I lay awake at 3 am last night I started to think back on 2013. It was a good year for me. |
